Abstract

This study describes the implementation of scaffolding through staged student worksheets (Lembar Kerja Murid) to help Grade XI vocational high school students understand and complete Indonesian language learning tasks. The study involved 40 students of class XI TKJ 1 (Computer and Network Engineering) during lessons on argumentative and news texts from August to September. Data were collected through learning assessments, classroom observations, and a diagnostic questionnaire on learning needs. Scaffolding was implemented through examples, step-by-step instructions, task formats, staged activities, and teacher support adjusted to students' difficulties. The class mean score in the initial argumentative-text assessment was 40 and rose to 50 after the staged worksheets were applied. In the news-text lessons, after examples, task formats, and modeling were provided, the class mean reached 83. Because the materials differed between stages, the scores are compared descriptively. Students who initially asked where to begin became more able to follow the task sequence when support was concrete and gradual. These findings indicate that staged worksheets can serve as practical scaffolding to reduce initial confusion, clarify task demands, and gradually foster learner independence.
