Strategi Pengelolaan Limbah Plastik dalam Meningkatkan Ekonomi Masyarakat

Plastic waste has become one of the major challenges in environmental management due to its contribution to pollution and the underutilization of waste as an economic resource. In Santong Village, North Lombok Regency, plastic waste management continues to face several challenges, including inadequate waste management facilities, limited processing capacity, and suboptimal community involvement. This study aimed to formulate plastic waste management strategies that could improve the local economy by identifying internal and external factors influencing waste management. The study employed a qualitative approach using a case study method. Data were collected through observations, in-depth interviews, and documentation, then analyzed using SWOT analysis (Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) to identify the factors underlying the development of plastic waste management strategies. The findings revealed several strategic factors influencing the success of plastic waste management. Community participation and the availability of local resources were identified as strengths, while inadequate facilities and limited management capacity were identified as weaknesses. Government policy support and opportunities to develop markets for recycled products represented opportunities, whereas fluctuations in waste prices and low environmental awareness among some community members constituted threats. Based on the SWOT matrix, the priority strategies included strengthening collaboration among village governments, community groups, and business actors; enhancing community capacity through education and training; developing recycled products with economic value; and expanding marketing networks for recycled products. These strategies have the potential to improve the effectiveness of plastic waste management, strengthen community empowerment, create business opportunities, and sustainably increase local household incomes.
