Low sustainable consciousness among elementary school students in managing school waste is a pressing issue. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Sustainable Waste Management Project (SWMP) on fifth-grade students’ sustainable consciousness. A quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental Nonequivalent Control Group Design involved 59 students at SDN Jayamukti 04, Cikarang Pusat, Bekasi, selected through purposive sampling. The experimental group consisted of 29 students, while the control group included 30 students. Data were collected using a validated 28-item multiple-choice pretest-posttest instrument with a Cronbach’s Alpha of 0.904. Data were analyzed using the Shapiro-Wilk normality test, Levene’s homogeneity test, and independent-samples t-test in SPSS version 26. The results indicated a significant effect of SWMP on students’ sustainable consciousness (t = 5.54, df = 57, p < 0.05). The experimental group’s mean score increased from 22.55 to 38.55, a gain of 16.00 points, compared with 9.07 points in the control group. Social knowledge showed the largest improvement, increasing from 42.41% to 74.83%. These findings suggest that SWMP is more effective than conventional instruction in developing students’ environmental, social, and economic awareness.
