Understanding mathematical concepts is a fundamental component of learning mathematics, yet many students only memorize formulas without grasping the underlying concepts. Learning models that engage students actively and help them construct knowledge independently, such as CORE, are therefore needed. This study was motivated by the still-low level of mathematical conceptual understanding among 11th-grade students in Class F2, Phase F, at Sijunjung State High School No. 8. The purpose of this study was to determine whether students’ mathematical conceptual understanding improved after the implementation of the Connecting, Organizing, Reflecting, Extending (CORE) learning model compared to before its implementation. The research design used was a pre-experimental study with a one-group pretest-posttest design. The population for this study consisted of all 11th-grade students in Phase F at Sijunjung State High School 8. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling, with the research subjects being the students in Class XI F2. The instruments used were pretest and posttest questions in the form of essay-type tests. The data analysis technique used was the t-test. Based on the data analysis, it was found that the research subjects’ data followed a normal distribution. The mean pre-test score was 13.22, and the mean post-test score was 62.33. The results of the hypothesis test yielded a calculated t-value of 20.30 and a critical t-value of 2.050. Since the calculated t-value was greater than the critical t-value, the proposed hypothesis was accepted. Thus, it can be concluded that the students’ ability to understand mathematical concepts after the implementation of the CORE learning model was better than before its implementation in Class XI F2, Phase F, at Sijunjung State High School 8.
