Abstract

Learning and the appropriate use of instructional models can be student-centered. Project Based Learning (PjBL) is a learning model that can actively engage students in the learning process. This study aimed to determine the effect of the Project Based Learning model on students’ scientific literacy and Biology learning outcomes among Grade X students at SMAN 10 Mataram in the 2025/2026 academic year, particularly on the topic of climate change. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental method with a nonequivalent pretest-posttest control group design. The study population consisted of Grade X students at SMAN 10 Mataram, with a sample of 60 students, comprising 30 students in the experimental group and 30 students in the control group. Data were collected using scientific literacy tests and learning outcome tests, while data analysis was conducted using descriptive statistics and Analysis of Covariance (ANCOVA) with the assistance of SPSS 25. The results showed that the Project Based Learning model had a significant effect on learning outcomes, with a significance value of 0.001. The adjusted mean score of the experimental group was 76.094, which was higher than that of the control group (52.306). Furthermore, the model had a significant effect on scientific literacy, with a significance value of 0.000. The adjusted mean score of the experimental group was 75.562, higher than that of the control group (57.371). Therefore, it can be concluded that the Project Based Learning model has a significant effect on improving students’ scientific literacy and Biology learning outcomes among Grade X students at SMAN 10 Mataram.
