The research area is located in Sawahlunto City, West Sumatra Province. Geologically, the research area is located in the Ombilin Sub-basin which is composed of several formations, including the Sangkarewang Formation and the Sawahtambang Formation. This study aims to determine the reservoir potential based on sandstone porosity. Sandstone itself is a clastic sedimentary rock with fairly good porosity that acts as a reservoir that has a grain size of very fine to very coarse sand. The research methods used include geological mapping, representative rock sampling, petrographic section analysis, blue dye porosity analysis and granulometric analysis. The results of these three analyses are integrated to evaluate the sandstone reservoir potential of the research area. The analysis results show that the sandstone of the Sawahtambang formation has a porosity value of 18.71% classified as sublitharenite and the Sangkarewang formation has a porosity value of 10.47% classified as lithic wacke. Based on these porosity values, the sandstone of the Sawahtambang formation has better reservoir quality than the sandstone of the Sangkarewang formation.
