The Lubuk Tarok area is part of the Ombilin Basin, which preserves a complex geological history influenced by tectonic and sedimentary processes. This study aims to reconstruct the geological history of the study area based on stratigraphic analysis. The methods employed include field observations, measured stratigraphic section analysis, petrographic analysis, and paleontological analysis. Field observations identified three main rock units: the Granite Intrusion (Tgr), the Sawahtambang Formation (Tost), and the Ombilin Formation (Tmo). The Granite Intrusion represents the oldest geological event and is associated with Mesozoic magmatic activity. Following a depositional hiatus, the Sawahtambang Formation was deposited during the Early to Late Oligocene in a braided-river environment, characterized by conglomerate, sandstone, sand shale, carbonaceous shale, and coal interbeds. Subsequently, marine transgression during the Middle Miocene resulted in the deposition of the Ombilin Formation, which consists of carbonate claystone containing planktonic and benthic foraminifera, indicating a prodelta depositional environment with marginal to middle neritic bathymetry. The integration of stratigraphic relationships, lithological characteristics, petrographic results, paleontological data, and structural analysis indicates that the geological evolution of the study area was controlled by magmatic activity, depositional hiatus, fluvial sedimentation, marine transgression, tectonic deformation, and exogenic processes.
