Tourism growth in priority rural areas increases waste generation, while community participation in waste management often remains weak. This study analyzes the influence of social capital (trust, networks, and norms) on environmental sustainability and economic welfare, in order to formulate directions for strengthening community participation in sustainable waste management in Sembalun Bumbung Village, East Lombok. A sequential explanatory mixed methods design was used. Questionnaires were distributed to 57 respondents selected by proportionate stratified random sampling across twelve hamlets, complemented by in-depth interviews, field observations, and documentation. Data were analyzed using multiple linear regression. Social capital simultaneously explained 93.0% of the variation in environmental sustainability (F = 233.779; p < 0.001), with networks (β = 0.589; p < 0.001) and trust (β = 0.301; p = 0.006) as significant partial predictors, while norms were not significant (p = 0.068). Social capital also explained 50.9% of economic welfare, although no dimension was partially significant and the reliability of the welfare instrument was below the threshold. These findings indicate that strengthening local organizational networks and trust, supported by village regulations and circular economy-based economic incentives, is a priority for strengthening community participation.
