The Tanjung Menang area, West Merapi District, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra Province, is a hilly region characterized by various rock types, geological conditions, and geological phenomena that have potential for development as a geotourism area. The morphology and geological diversity of the area provide opportunities for natural tourism as well as geological education. This research aims to identify the geological and geomorphological conditions of the Tanjung Menang area, describe the geological phenomena and landscape characteristics, and identify geological objects that have potential to be developed as geotourism attractions based on their scientific, educational, aesthetic, and tourism values. The method used in this research is descriptive observation through direct field observations and a geological study of the Tanjung Menang area, supported by geological maps, literature, and previous studies. Field observations were conducted to identify rock types, geological outcrops, morphology, geological phenomena, and the characteristics of each potential tourism location. The results show that the Tanjung Menang area has several potential geotourism attractions, including the morphology of Bukit Serelo/Jempol, Bukit Besar, Sungai Lematang, Curup Panjang, and Tanjung Menang Waterfall. The potential is indicated by distinctive hilly morphology, sedimentary and andesitic rocks, geological outcrops with inclined layers, indications of intrusive activity, and geomorphological processes such as erosion and river development. Bukit Serelo/Jempol and Bukit Besar have strong aesthetic and landscape values, while Sungai Lematang and Tanjung Menang Waterfall provide geological and geomorphological educational values related to fluvial processes, erosion, and landscape formation. These geological and landscape characteristics indicate that the Tanjung Menang area has potential to be developed as a geotourism area that integrates natural tourism, geological education, and landscape appreciation. Effective management, conservation, accessibility, and safety supervision are required to support sustainable development of the area as a geotourism destination.
