Abstract

The Kikim River in the Gumay Talang Area, Lahat Regency, South Sumatra, exhibits a well-developed meander pattern that is presumed to be influenced by local geomorphological and geological conditions. This study aims to analyze the geomorphological and geological factors controlling the development of the Kikim River meander pattern based on the Sinuosity Index (SI), slope gradient, and geological structures. The research methods include geomorphological analysis, drainage pattern interpretation, slope analysis using the Indonesian National Digital Elevation Model (DEMNAS), SI calculation following Charlton’s method, and integration of geological and structural geological data using a Geographic Information System (GIS). The results indicate that the Kikim River has an SI value of 2.17, classifying it as a meandering river. The dominance of flat to gently sloping terrain along the river corridor promotes lateral erosion and channel migration, thereby enhancing meander development. Geological structures, including faults and folds, play a significant role in controlling valley orientation and the development of trellis drainage patterns within the study area. In addition, sedimentary lithologies that are relatively susceptible to erosion further facilitate the development of river meanders. These findings indicate that the development of the Kikim River meander pattern is controlled by the interaction of low slope gradients, geological structures, and continuous fluvial processes.
